One of the easiest types of hydroponic systems to build is a Water Culture system. It’s also often called a Deep Water Culture (DWC) or a Bubble system. With a Water Culture System there is only one moving part, the air pump. The air pump supply’s a continuous flow of air to the air stones (blubbers). These air bubbles keep the roots from drowning or suffocating in the nutrient solution.
The plants are suspended above the nutrient solution. This is usually done by floating a sheet of Styrofoam on top, and cutting holes to fit baskets that hold the plants in them. This design will be slightly different in that the lid of the container will contain the holes that hold the baskets with the plants suspended above the nutrient solution.
