This was a very interesting and readable book proclaiming that it was a new history of the Trojan War based upon newly discovered evidence to prove that Homer's Iliad and other ancient texts have a basis on fact. Strauss then goes on to tell the the story again with glimpses of events as seen through contemporary texts. Unfortunately, these glimpses are just that: fleeting images that leaves one wishing for more substantial evidence to support his contention. One yearns for more information from the joint Tuebingen-U. of Cincinnati excavations currently in progress as to how they have supported Strauss' claims, as well as more of the evidence found in Hittite texts.
Loved the book and maps. Great value highly recommend for a quick read..

I have always liked reading about the ancient Greeks and their stories. So when I seen this newest version, I decided to buy it. I am near the end of the book, and I think it's a refresher look at the story. I like the book.
Gave a view of the war and the surrounding events that confirmed Homer's poem "The Iliad". He took the latest discoveries and excavations of Troy and brought them into play about the Trojan War.
Great Book!
