I watched YouTube videos about this machine and many of the people recommended Orville Redenbacher's popcorn. I bought some, and OMG what a difference between regular popping popcorn and Orville Redenbacher's! There is never one unpopped kernel with Orville Redenbacher. It really is worth spending a little extra money. I was always worried about hurting my teeth and now I don't have to worry about that with Redenbacher popcorn. This machine makes the popcorn in 1 to 2 minutes. Everything perfectly popped! It is unbelievably easy to clean. I am so happy that I purchased this product!

Yes, it pops corn. However, two design flaws annoy. First, the cooking area is not flat. If you look closely at the photo, you can see that the bottom curves upward, so the stirring wand does not cover the entire area on which the corn rests. As the wand rotates, it pushes some of the kernals up onto the curved area, where they stay and don't pop. To get enough kernals to pop, have to shake the entire machine (making sure that the lid doesn't come off) throughout the popping cycle to make those stray kernals fall onto the flat cooking surface. For some reason, some popper kernels get stuck under the stirring wand, too. (I had another brand popper years ago that had a completely flat bottom, and didn't have this kind of problem. Figured the designers should have tested this machine and found out the curved bottom doesn't work, and the wand needed to be closer to the bottom.) Also, the lid rests in a narrow groove in which popped corn always lodges. It's a pain in the ... you know ... to get those kernels out when cleaning the machine. Were it not for this groove, a paper towel would do the trick nicely without marring the finish. Would send it back, but that's a lot of hassle. A simple product such as this, which has been around for a LONG time, should not have these flaws. Simple testing would have made them evident and the product could have been re-designed appropriately. Guess that would have cost West Bend some extra bucks, bucks they preferred to keep in their own pockets. Grrrr ...Read full review

Works as should, clear cover is flimsy makes it somewhat stressful to clean and red butter cover doesn't stay secured. Just like many other products made nowadays not the best quality, so to be expected. Not the sellers fault, the manufacturers. It was a decent price and cooks all the kernels if following recommended amounts of oil and kernels.

The unit that we purchased is almost the same as our old Stir Crazy. Our old one is twenty years old, and still working well, but it has a broken leg, that is why we got the new one. I don't think the new one will last nearly as long as our old one because as it is starting to pop it makes a very loud and sharp screeching sound. It also starts to reverse the direction of the stirring rod as it starts to fill up. This could just be a problem with the unit that we received, but it is going to have to prove it's self to us. I would not recommend this unit to anyone, and I would not purchase another one.

This is the 4th or 5th Stir Crazy popper that I have owned over many years, and I think it is the best one yet. It pops the corn very quickly and completely. I use Metzgers corn which pops very reliably. The only issues that I have with the popper are the non removable cord, unlike my previous unit, and the plastic threaded shaft on the motor. This shaft fails after a period of time and is difficult to replace with a metal one. My last one lasted several years before I had to replace it. These issues are minor and do not affect the operation of this popper. I also like the drum solo that the popper makes while popping. Just one more reason to love this unit.
