I am only on the first book, but am really enjoying working with it. The only think I wish is that had a spiral binding. But since it is really the information that I want, it is a good purchase for a beginner like me. I am really able to play familiar songs.

Excellent book for someone with a little experience as it does review the basics of tuning and playing. it has a great selection of music as well.

The tips, pointers and instructions were very helpful. I'm a beginner and this was written in a way that it is easily understood. But, the tablature was written with only notes, C, D, etc. No full, half, quarter, etc. so it was hard to play and sometimes recognize a melody. A guitar teacher told me that is because music is melody AND timing. After initially reading this book and learning about the dulcimer and how to play it, I haven't used the book for music or practice.
It is a great teaching of how to play the instrument.

This book is better than most others because Jeff addresses the noter playing in DADD and DAAA modes. However, without a CD to hear what the tunes sound like, and more songs, it was limited in its value to me. I would like to see a book written by Jeff with noter songs in the above two tunings, along with a CD to go with it. And, not just church songs, but nice folk songs like "Pretty Betty Martin", etc. Overall, it was more helpful than the others I wasted money on,but not all I had hoped for.
