Judy Hopkins and Nancy J. Martin are among quilting's best "technicians" at producing scrap quilts in classic patterns, and with "Rotary Riot" they do not dissapoint! This is probably one of the earliest books on creating quilts with rotary cutting techniques, and it is still worthy of inclusion in any quilters library. Beginners will especially enjoy the easy to follow directions, and prolific photographs - that show you every step of basic rotary cutting techniques. In addition to the great general directions on cutting and sewing, there are FORTY classic block quilt patterns, all re-designed using speedy rotary techniques to make piecing a snap for beginners. At 128 pages, the book is packed with great information for new quilters, but much will also provide a challenge to more experienced quilters. I have one of Nancy Martin's other scrap quilting books, and had not seen this older title, and was surprised when it came at just how useful it is. Sometimes an older quilting book is a little too wordy, and not necessarily easy to digest - not the case with this book. Also includes eight original full-size traceable quilting designs, and instructions on finishing you quilt - squaring blocks, sets, assembly methods, borders, sashing, backings, and batting. The only negative is that it does spend a few pages showing how to use Nancy Martings Bias Square ruler, and Judy's "Scrapsaver" ruler - I'm not sure if these are still available. But, I had no problem making "do" with my existing rotary rulers... PIECE and Happy SEAMS to all! - KarenQuiltsTexas karenquiltslife.blogspotRead full review
