If you are looking for basic, general information, the book is ok. I have several railroad lantern that are about 100 years old and belonged to my great grandfather. I purchased the book hoping to learn more about these lanterns, but the book lacks the detail I hoped for.

A must for those who know little about lanterns. Good pictures, easy read, and this book has a lot of useful information. Information presented does not become "dated". A hard back would have been nicer, but for the price one could not really want for more. If not for Ebay and Paypal, I'd still be in the "dark".
It's nice to look at old lanterns and see the historical value of them

Overall it is a good source of information for lantern collectors. The author gives a lot of information on Dietz and Adlake lanterns. However, he only mentions many other Companies that made lanterns. I wish the book had more informtion on Rayo, C.T. Ham, Buhl, etc. lanterns. It still is an informative book though.
