Since I worked in a hospital operating room, these type of books were light reading for employees and I picked this one up from our book exchange. Thinking I would be reading something resembling the movie "Outbreak" or a CSI episode, I was not disappointed. But, this book is medical history, not someone's wild imagination. This book is written by a virologist who traveled the globe looking for the sources of new and deadly viruses. This plot could be a dry read but the author makes the subject matter interesting to the point of me not being able to put the book down. With my limited education of the subject matter, I was able to understand this with no problem so you do not need to have a PhD to pick this one up. For the average public, this is an eye-opener as to what really happened behind the headlines of the Ebola virus, Hanta virus and the Restin virus as well as some lesser known outbreaks. I now have a better understanding as to what these people do and why they find the field fascinating and exciting. I will be looking for other books similar to this subject matter.Read full review
