I decided to buy this book b/c of a friend of mine who has what looks like an unorganized garden both in layout - not neat rows - and how plants are grouped gets an ourstanding result. I asked her and she said she uses companion planting. I need all the help I can get b/c I love the results but not the process of gardening! :-) I can't speak for the results yet, my seeds were just planted in trays for transplant in a few weeks, but I can say that the book offered quite a bit of good information that was easy to understand. While it may be a bit too ambitious for a gardener of my caliber/motivation I didn't find it at all intimidating. Good luck with your veggies!
This book is an excellent companion for the home gardener. It lists all vegetables and flowers common to household gardens, and each of their complements (which plants should be combined for optimum growth and disease and insect resistance). For example, we had planted yarrow and gallardia in our flower garden. The gallardia grew only 18" tall. It should have been twice that size. The book states that yarrow slows the growth of other plants, shortening them. This is true. This book also has drawings for layouts of ideal gardens. This book will be a great help for future years as a reference for my home garden.
I work long hours an I’m also trying to grow vegetables. Try to learn as much as I can.
