This has reduced the amount I need to manually water my plants immensely, but I still soak the top layer daily to help maintain soil health. The Blumat distribution drippers would probably help spread the water around the surface, but I don't know if it would be enough to prevent manual watering entirely for my particular garden. I just used tap water to set up my blumat carrots, but I should've boiled it first as the instructions advised. Over time the air that was dissolved in the tap water turned into bubbles, and if that happens in your soaked carrots it can potentially prevent the system from working properly. After setting up the system with a gravity fed reservoir I've been too lazy to let it run dry and re-prep the carrots. It may sound like it isn't perfect for my use, but I am still very happy with the product and I think you will be too. I did have to buy a splitter for the hose in order for my setup to work, as well as a bucket to use as a reservoir, but there are no other systems like this on the market. Even with the additional purchases it was still pretty darn cheap.Read full review

I love this simple little system. I can fill the reservoir once every 7 to 10 days and just walk away.
