Mid-Late 18th C Large Gilt Lancet Case with Lancets By Evans, Rodgers, Armitage : $310.00
This is for an early gilt lancet case. The case is 2.75\" long and 1.75\" wide at the level of the hinge. The case is not hallmarked. It is engraved with the names \"Robt Allan; Robt Allan 2nd; H.B. McCall and J. Bell\". A reference to a Robert Allan in the Royal Academy of Surgeons dates his election to 04/06/1821. The expense of a gilt case was good reason to pass it from colleague to colleague. The case holds three shell cased thumb lancets. One is by Evans c.1812, the second is Rodgers c.1820 and the third is rubbed but I believe it is by Armitage c.1840\". The hinge is intact but loose as is the clasp. There is wear to its surface that is appropriate for the careers of 3-4 physicians. It is a beautiful piece of medical, surgical history. The images do not do it justice. See images for condition. Questions are welcome
