Hydroponic fun Tough Guy 24 Pod Tower look for improved valve access
I have sold anddeliveredover one hundred fifty tough guy towers all over the United States from Florida, New York, Oklahoma, California, and Washington Texas and Oregon and many states in between on and Etsy. The tough guy is rugged and friendly to use. Itreally works growing just about anything that has roots. The tower has just a few parts. A tough 5 gallon pail, About 42 inches tall overall the tower made from 6 inch pipe with 24 grow pods mounted slanting down, screwed in place with a stainless steel screw that protrudes into the root area. trapping your planting in place as it grows around it. The grow pods are sealed to the tower ensuring that the nutrient/water flow is contained within the tower recirculating into the pail. Start from seeds foam blocks or better and much quicker, plant small seedlings with rootsexposedand mostly washed off. Seedlings will grow with almost 100% success. Plant by splitting the provided foam block around the plant stem above the roots and stuff it in a grow pod.
The nutrient,10-5-14Maxigrow, at least a full season, is supplied. A couple tablespoons or less per gallon of water is stored in the pail. It will last several days in moderate weather. Tomatoes drink a lot and in hot weather will need a little more attention.A high quality pump with only one moving part is provided. Let the pump run continuously or turn off at night,providing aconstant visualaeratednutrient fountain to drizzle down inside the tower feeding therootsuniformlythroughout the tower.
The adjustable flow pump is filtered and is readily accessed by lifting the tower from the pail support collar, even when it has a season of growth. Roots can betrimmed as the plants grow by lifting the tower out of the pail support collar.
My fully grown tower got so heavy with growth I used a rope and pulley to lift it to trim the roots.See the attached pictures of a grown from seed sunflowersurroundedwith peppers, squash, herbsand tomatoes at the base. Even a Mellonrests on the base area.
A word of caution: Please take precautions about wateroccasionallydripping or minor splashing from the pail if you plan to keep it indoors. Note a flow control valve mounted outside the tower is easilyavailable with an external fountain pipe. Now a standard addition as well as a split pail dark blue cover. See pictures
What I found works well is to place your complete tower assembly in a larger decorativetub that will catch any stray drips.Attractive, large low cost bowls are available at Lowes. See the attached last picture. The large basin is NOT part of this order.
