54\" Barricuda. Mounted Stuffed Taxidermy. Wall Mount. Vintage. :
$249.95

Folks, this is Bob the Barricuda. He is about four-and-a-half feet long, 54\". He was taxidermied by J.T. Reese Taxidermist Inc., in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My guess is that he is from the 1950s or 1960s. He is in worn condition. The tips of all the fins are/were damaged, with the tips frayed or broken. The top rear fin had about an 1-1/2\" tip missing, I made a new tip out of Femo. It is glued on with a wood brace holding it on. I did various touch up painting on the fin tips and around his lips. I did an okay, not great, job with the painting. Please see photos. My touch-up painting is a bit too gray, and not metallic enough. One of his front lower teeth was also missing. I made a replacement tooth from Femo, painted it half-decently, and glued it in. So, Bob is only in fairly good condition. It is a one-sided mount, meant to be wall hung. The wire wall hang is strong; he\'s ready to be on a new wall. So, that said, here\'s the story, as it was told to me. Bob is a Republican barricuda. I know that might sound odd, but it was important to the fellow I got it from to communicate that to me. I\'m now passing it along to you. Bob the Barricuda is a Republican, but he gets along with Democrats too. I researched. J.T. Reese Taxidermist Inc. on the Florida Secretary of State website. It was in business as a corporation from 1957 to 1994. I found a 1993 article on Reese. Here is an excerpt:
\"\'Our No. 1 customer is the tourist,” agrees Bill Allan, president of the Fort Lauderdale-based J.T. Reese Taxidermist.

While Gray Taxidermy and J.T.Reese taxidermists may be catering to the same clientele, each company is using a different method to mount a fish. The oldest technique is skin mounting, which J.T. Reese Taxidermist specialize in, while the newer and less stomach-churning technique, as offered by Gray Taxidermy, is known as reproduction mounting.

\'We believe in giving our customers the choice,\' says Allen, \'but 70 percent of our business is skin mounts.\'

Skin mounting at J. T. Reese Taxidermist involves making a plastic cast of the original fish. Once the cast is made, the skin of the fish is removed from the body. With the access meat scraped off from the skin, degreasing begins, using soaps, in order to remove the oil from the skin. Following degreasing, the skin is placed in the original cast with the show side facing downward. Once the body of the fish has been made in the cast, the body is then placed in the drying room to draw out the humidity in the skin of the fish. The finishing process ensures that the body is prepared to be sprayed with a primer coat and then painted. This process to Allen, takes \'two to three months.\'\"

So, I believe that Bob the Barricuda is a skin mount. rather than a reproduction molding, but I\'m not positive. Put Bob the Barricuda on your wall to amuse your friends, annoy your wife and frighten small children. Shipping is included in the price, but please realize that he will cost somewhere around $100 to $120 to ship because of his grand size.
