1984 R.L Tack 12/11 Hammered Dulcimer:
$69.01

This is a 12/11 hammered dulcimer carrying a sticker indicating it was manufactured by the R.L Tack Company in 1984. I found this in a Goodwill store and bought with the intent of refurbishing it, but I\'ve decided it\'s not a project that I want to take on. I\'m confident that with new strings and perhaps some other work this can be a very nice instrument. That being said, I am selling it as is, while describing it to the best of my ability. The strings still are playable; however, they are very dark and as a result are hard to see against the wood of the dulcimer body. I\'d say this at the very least needs to be restrung, although it can be tuned somewhat closely and played as is right now.The structural elements - as visible in the photos, the top layer of wood laminate is chipping and coming off on both sides of the top. This does not seem to affect the playability or structure of the instrument, but it is obviously a cosmetic issue. I do not know if the various pins can be removed and the top re-laminated or not. The main tuning pins (the one on the right) seem to hold the strings in place; however, it does appear that some of the pins are leaning slightly to the left, as if something heavy had been placed on the dulcimer at some point in its life. This is the only dulcimer that I\'ve ever owned, so I don\'t know how this might affect the ease of tuning as opposed to one that hasn\'t had this happen to it. They do seem somewhat stiff to turn, and the slightest turn does affect the string pitch a considerable amount. The handle on the front may or may not be original to the instrument. It appears it was attached at some point for ease of carrying it, and then broke off. I feel this would be a good starter instrument for someone who\'s been wanting to try the dulcimer and doesn\'t mind changing the strings, or might be a good restoration project for someone more familiar with these. I would be happy to answer any questions.
