History: 1939–The famous Farmall Letter Series, the first full tractor lineup from IH, wasintroduced. The modern design with three silver stripes andthe threedimensional Farmall nameplate was commissioned by designerRaymondLoewy.

TheFarmall A used the same size engine as the F-12 and F-14,governed at 1400rpm. Its engine was offset to the left, andthe operator seatand steering wheel were offset to the right. This gave theoperator anunobstructed view of the ground beneath the tractor where thecultivatoroperated, making the tractor much more popular than the narrowfront B. Thisconcept, designed by Loewy, was called “Culti-Vision.” Thereasoning was thatcultivating delicate crops was the major application of atractor of thishorsepower and so he shaped everything around this task.
