I read this story somewhere and it makes sense. Coke people always called Coca-Cola\" Coca-Cola\"because they felt like\"Coke \" was a nickname that leant itself to being called a substitution or an inferior product. The soft drink industry had given The Coca-Cola Co. fits since inception on knock off nicknames. It was a miracle that someone hadn\'t tried to trade-mark the word \"Coke\" and got away with it because the public as a whole readily accepted and thought it natural to order a \"Coke\" when what they meant was a \"Coca-Cola\". Well the parent company got the notion and the good senseto finally trade-mark both words before it was too late. So in 1947 that\'s what they did. And give in they did with a massive campaign to actually encourage the interchangeability of both words. They actually came up with the \"Sprite Boy\" in their advertising to reinforce that point and he was so popular he fell into their mainstream advertising for years.
