hey ron... i went to my local hardware and garden shop and they didn't have hydroponic plant food so i bought an all purpose plant food that was 2-10-10, if i bought something to add more nitrogen to that would it be sufficient for growing tomatoes and (or) cotton?????

It might work if you add some calcium nitrate and some epsom salt to it.

Hello there Hydro World,

We are starting a commercial lettuce operation in Mexico and I am interested on people who want to share experiences on the Deep Flow Tech. We are in the lettuce growing business. Any Ideas about controlling Algae? Good growing to you all!

JPS.

Algae is your friend when it comes to hydroponics. Without algae there is no nutrients in the water.
Have you ever seen plants growing from of a swimming pool?

hey ron, george crescent city fl. planning to build a couple of your yard gardens for use this summer when i have to shut the greenhouse down. with the heat here in fl do i need some shade cloth over the garden or just clear plastic as in your pics? ps, you were right about greenhouses only good for winter use in fl.

I even tried a verity called Heat Wave last spring and they still didn't produce. I have manage for the first time to save 100 tomato plants this year by using kerosene heaters. I will be selling tomatoes online overnight express very soon. I will be building a large scale open field hydroponic tomato system next spring. Who needs a greenhouse?

Yes I don't grow without shade cloth or my tomato plants wilt from the heat.

ron, is it necessary to paint the 2-liter bottles, and if so, what is the best kind of paint to use that won't chip and crack?

Vinyl spray paint works best, found at auto parts stores.

hey ron, on picture page four it shows a garden using 16 ounce cups with no two liters how would you put that to gather? I'm asking because I cant get a lot of 2 liters rounded up, so I wanted to just buy some cups since i saw that picture.

thanks

I tried using White plastic glasses like the ones in the picture and they look good but didn't last because they were not uv protected. The 2-liter plastic bottle will last forever. I am still using 15 year old gardens.

For information on Perlite use instead of Grow Rocks go to Members Projects Page and find Glen Seibert's web page and you will find info and pictures on Perlite use and/or use the search engine and type in paint strainer. I hope this helps. I am a lazy gardner and prefer Perlite to Grow Rocks as I dump the Perlite after each season. I hope this helps. Nurse Duckett

Looking for a good online hydro store that sells there products at a reasonable price. NOT WORMS WAY.

I will be setting up a discount to members hydro store as soon as I can procure a stocking order to be able to offer lower prices and still remain in business. Searching for a few deep pocket partners to hurry the process up. Ron
But until then, Jeff is offering a discount to members at

I have been growing a certain plant now for a number of years. I have been using soil i have had success i have become quite good at what i do. However I live in the UK and this particular plant is frowned upon by some (lets call them uneducated) people. I have decided to start growing hydroponically as people i talk to tell me i would get a better crop. Obviously i have also been reading all about hydroponics from a number of places. I have to say this site is definitely one of the better sites i have visited you explain in very good detail how things should be done. When i set up, this site will be visited over and over until i get it right..... keep up the good work......KENNY SWANSEA WALES UK

Happy Holidays! I recently found a Phototron II and it is fully operational (lights anyway). However, I am a complete novice on the system and how hydroponics work in such a device. What do I need to acquire to get started (i.e. growing medium, fertilizer solution, pumps, BOOKS, test kits, etc.). I dreamt of owning one of these thing since high school so I hope it has been worth the wait!

Sorry that garden is all hype. You can't grow much with florescence lights, the light source in them.

how many plants can i grow in an 8X8 green house, using the pvc piping?? steve

Depends on if you are a beginner or if you have any experience growing at all. So when you start out you won't grow much at all until your experience grows. So it will depend on how good you get at growing hydroponically to determine how many plants you can grow in that space. Ah! Hell about 50 plants.

Check out Europonic and Ionic information at www.superiorgrowers.com

TIP: Nitrogen is good for growing, and less needed for flowering of most plants! That is why when you company N-P-K levels of a grow formula perhaps 4-6-3 compared to a bloom perhaps 1-8-7, the first number would drop, first number being Nitrogen.

Hi All,

I recently opened a website/store that offers hydroponic supplies. I did this for two main reasons: first, I'm a software engineer and wanted to build an ecommerce web site; second, hydroponics is my hobby and I wanted to get stuff as cheap as possible.

I talked to Ron about offering you guys a special deal. Everything I have is at least 10% off list (some 15% off and most following in the next couple of months) and you guys can get an extra 10% off with this coupon (at the checkout cart use the code: hydroponics). That will likely bring my profit margin to about next to nothing.

I'm adding new stuff to my database all the time. I'm a dealer for a couple garden supply wholesalers and one light wholesaler. If you want something that's not on my site let me know. Most likely I can get it but just haven't listed it yet.

So, please check out www.dogstarlabs.com and see what I have available.

what size container do i use for the 11 plant garden -jonniblaze2000@yahoo.com

You can use any size container. As a rule I like to use a container that holds 3 times as much as the garden will hold.

i am making the 11 plant hydroponic system and i was wondering how should i fasten the pvc piping down to the nutrient container? thanx for your responoses!!

why? You growing in a hurricane. You can use bungee cords to hold the sucker down or if you need a more permanent way use elastic ties. Just ask the cops for some the next time you are busted. They use them for hand cuffs.
