second fair display system
Finally was able to get the second fair system done. The plants were very overgown in the house and the weather is cooler the next few days so perfect time to make the switch. This is the same 1/2 barrel that I used last year. This will be a flood and drain system with a 55 gal barrel as a nute res that is inside a foam box to help keep the nutes cool. I have 4 corn plants and 2 zuchinni plants planted in this system. I just need to wrap the tubes in some insulation and put the lid on the nutes. The third and fouth system are also almost done, hope to get them ready for the plants tomorrow.

After hardening off, the plants are in. Some yellow sweet corn (4) and 2 zuchinni plants. They have been in several days now and after some adjustment to the heat are growing with new leaves.....

Looks great. Did you get the barrels cheap? Just wondering because I have a local source I can get them for about $7 ea. Not that that would help you because shipping costs would be outrageous from here, but just wondering. It gets your mind thinking when you can find a reliable source for inexpensive materials that you like to use.

This system is my favorite!!! The zuchinni are really taking off and I should have flowers for fair. The corn got a little heat burnt but seems to be recovering. I also put some herbs from the bubbler system in here to help keep them cool and let the roots come out of the basket. The herbs got WAY too hot while I was in the hospital with my husband but they seem to be thriving now.

Looks like their doing good. I hear that corn tastes it's best when cooked and eaten right after picking. I never grew corn though. But I do have in mind a rotating crop system for growing corn I would like to try in the future.

Well this system is taking off..... The monster zuchinni has taken over and knocked the corn over and is now encroching on the herbs. I know that it is not really the traditional campanion plantings but it was for fair and I just haven't moved them yet. Zuchinni is almost ready to pick and it is way taller and spread out then last year. Suppose to be in the 70's this week so I hope that it keeps producing.
On a happy note, husband is doing well and talking about building my greenhouse |

This zucchini plant is really producing and has grown as tall as my car now. It has been into the low 40's at night but it hasen't slowed down any.

Who says you can't grow big plants using hydroponics? Is that the corn I see trying to peek out at the top?

Yup, left over from the fair display. I didn't have the heart to pull it. The lemon smelling herbs are still on the opisit end too.
